Eastern Churches

Eastern Churches
   This term is generically applied to the Churches that evolved in the eastern part of the Roman Empire; each of these churches has a distinctive liturgical, theological, and ecclesiastical tradition. Among the major Christiantraditions in the East are (1) the Assyrian Church of the East; (2) the Oriental Orthodox Churches; (3) the Orthodox Churches,which severed communion with Rome in 1054; and (4) the Eastern Catholic Churches, which are in communion with theBishop of Rome.
